Hi folks…with MUCH ADO wrapped for the time being, we can begin to discuss what’s coming up for us in the Fall, and next year. We’ve got a hell of a lot of going on right now.
Our normal producing season puts our Rotating Rep in the Fall, but this year due to a thwarted attempt at a long-term theatre space, we have moved the Rep to the Winter/Spring. So what is in our Fall?
Our 4th Annual ROCK AND ROLES event will happen in Oct 2011, and will once again feature a half-dozen exciting playwrights writing 10 minute plays inspired by great rock music. R&R 2010 feature plays inspired by “Don’t Stop Believin'”, “Paradise by the Dashboard Light” and “Scenes from an Italian Restaurant” to name but a few. And in true rock star fashion, the Jack Daniels was flowing! Venue and exact date TBA.
Following R&R will be our FIRST FLIGHT festival of New Plays, tentatively scheduled for Nov 16-20th. FIRST FLIGHT has grown from a small series of three readings in 2000 into one of the most anticipated development festivals in New York City. We annually receive over 200 submissions for the festival each year, which we narrow down to fill the 6-8 festival slots. A few slots have already been filled…The Infernal Triangle by Ed Schultz, 4Edges by Crystal Skillman, Riddle Lost by Kelly McAllister, The Prediction by Michael DeVito, and my new play The Firebird. In addition to the festival, we will also have a benefit night to support FIRST FLIGHT and our new play development programs.
All of this leads up to our Rep Season in Feb and March of 2012, which will include Melissa Gawlowski’s SPRING TIDES directed by Michael Criscuolo, THE HELIOTROPE BOUQUET BY SCOTT JOPLIN AND LOUIS CHAVIN by Eric Overmyer and directed by Christopher Thomasson, and one more play to be announced.
In between these events are auditions, fundraisers, board meetings, staff meetings, hiring production staff, meeting with our interns before they head back to school, podcasts, and other internal projects. Do we have a lot going on or what?
We could not be more excited about sharing all of this work with you. Want to support the cause? You can make a donation here.
