Written by LAUREN FEREBEE

April 21st – May 7th, 2017

Starring CHASE BURNETT, BRIAN MORVANT, TRACE POPE and AMANDA TUDOR

It’s 2008 in small town USA, and there is nothing Norman Rockwell about it. Lisa and Simon used to be soldiers, but they’re trying to put all that behind them. Except Simon’s mother just committed suicide, Lisa’s marriage is falling apart, the local meth dealer won’t leave them alone and the only calm person in town is Simon’s odd brother Terry, who spends all his time playing video games. Wrestling with the aftermath of death, and realization that no one knows what comes next, these four Americans grasp toward adulthood in a place they dream of leaving.

Announcing dates and venue for THE RECKLESS SEASON

Hello everyone…

Happy New Year! We’re incredibly excited to announce additional details for the world premiere production of THE RECKLESS SEASON by Lauren Ferebee, Boomerang’s first production of 2017.

THE RECKLESS SEASON will begin performances April 21st, 2017 at TheaterLab NYC (357 W 36th Street, NYC). The production will be directed by Dominic D’Andrea, with designs by Boomerang alums Kia Rogers (Lights) and Philip Emeott (Projections), along with Scott Tedmon-Jones (Sets), Andy Evan Cohen (Sound) and Viviane Galloway (Costumes). Antonio Minino and Kampfire Films PR return to handle press/publicity duties. Full casting will be announced shortly.

About the play:
It’s 2008 in small town USA, and there is nothing Norman Rockwell about it. Simon’s returned home after two tours in Iraq to find his alcoholic mother dead by suicide and his younger brother, Terry, strangely obsessed with an early-90s videogame about ancient Sparta. Between Terry, Terry’s truck stop co-worker, Lisa, and Flynn, their mother’s co-dependent former drug dealer, Simon’s dream of peace and quiet quickly evaporates. Wrestling with the aftermath of death, and realization that no one knows what comes next, these four Americans grasp toward adulthood in a place they dream of leaving.

THE RECKLESS SEASON will run for 14 performances from April 21st thru May 7th, 2017. Tickets will go on sale on Feb 15th.

Boomerang’s Holiday Campaign for New Plays…why recurring donations?

holiday-campaign-for-new-plays

Boomerang’s annual holiday appeal kicked off November 29th with an different appeal than usual: a recurring donation.

Instead of asking for a donation of $50 or $100 at the end of the year, we’re asking for donors to make smaller donations ($10 or $25 are suggested) on a monthly basis, as a means of helping our organization grow throughout the year rather than in one moment. How does it help?

Well, it allows us to have a steady income each month, helping us manage expenses when there are lean months when we do not have box office income, grant income or special events. Imagine a steady allowance each month, versus getting a lump sum.

Donation Share Support Fundraising Help Concept

Additionally, it hopefully allows the donor to support more work than a larger sum in one donation. Imagine your smaller monthly donations funding projects throughout the year like THE RECKLESS SEASON in April, free Shakespeare in July and LOVELESS TEXAS in October.

So with this thinking, we’ve set a goal of 100 donors pledging $10 per month for 12 months, and 50 donors pledging $25 per month.

This method of giving is revolutionizing fundraising in all sectors of the non-profit and philanthropic communities. For us, it is the most important fundraising campaign we’ve ever undertaken. It is a campaign to raise the most money, to provide opportunities to the most artists, and to produce the most challenging projects we’ve ever developed.

But more importantly, it’s a campaign to support new plays. The writing that will make an impact on our society and be included in the national repertory for years, decades to come.

We need your help to hit all the goals we have, and to deliver on our promises to our audiences and our artists.

You can make a fully tax-deductible donation to the campaign here.

We’re working hard at theatre!

Hey everyone…just a quick note to remind you to go vote. But you already knew that, right?

Here at Boomerang HQ, we are working long and hard on prepping our 2016 End of Year Giving campaign, doing pre-pre-pre-production on Lauren Ferebee‘s THE RECKLESS SEASON (Auditions will be Dec 10th~!)and keeping all the plates spinning. It’s a very fun time, with lots of possibility and excitement.

One of the ways you can help—Use Amazon Smile for gift giving this season. Check out the link below, which allows a portion of your purchase totals thru Amazon to be donated directly to Boomerang. It’s a great program and we are thankful for Amazon’s support

Anyway, just a quick note to say hello, and to keep watching this space for exciting things happening in the next few weeks.

And if you are looking for something AMAZINGLY COOL to do in NYC in the next few weeks, check out the exhibit “Drawn to Music” at the Society of Illustrators. Boomerang’s own Stefano Imbert has two pieces in  the exhibit, and all of the artwork is outstanding. Go check it out!
