Fun Photo Collages for the Season

Hi everyone…Here at Boomerang we put together photo collages for Annual Reporting requirements (basically we send these off to people who are looking for photographic evidence we actually did things). I thought we’d share them with you, as sort of a visual summary of what we’ve been doing these last 12 months. We’re still working on the version of Love’s Labour’s Lost…

14 Playwrights, 7000 audience members, and 1 special request

When looking back on our year at Boomerang Theatre Company we have been thrilled to have had the opportunity to:

  • Give 14 playwrights the opportunity to develop new work
  • Produce 2 exciting Shakespeare Revivals in outdoor settings
  • Provide entertainment for over 7000 audience members

And none of this would have been possible without YOU our generous donors and supporters. This year your support has been invaluable in paying for everything from rehearsal space to period costumes, to compensation for all of the incredible talent we’ve been able to bring together. We are so grateful for those of you who attended our shows, donated to our campaigns, and spread the word on social media. We love making great theatre for you and we’re excited to make even more in 2015.

In the coming year, we plan to:

  • Host another FREE Shakespeare production in Central Park
  • Expand our First Flight new play festival and continue to support the work of talented playwrights.
  • Present the first musical in Boomerang’s production history

And we hope that you’ll be a part of all of this with us again. As we close out 2014, we look to you our supporters to help us continue the work we’re doing.

That’s why we’re asking you to consider making an end of the year donation to the company so that we can continue this great work.

We know that this time of year your inbox is usually loaded with requests for support, and we appreciate you considering us in your end of year giving process. We have an ambitious season ahead of us and we’re counting on your support.

Blood Affection
By Vincent Sessa
Directed by Cailin Heffernan
It is a day like no other in the history of the marriage.  Their son dead, and so many other students at the High School shot and killed.  Shuttered in their bedroom the following morning, Karen and Carl dress.  Articles of clothing are considered or rejected, as every article of faith in the marriage itself is mercilessly examined.

Thursday November 20th at 7pm
World Builders
By Johnna Adams
Directed by John Hurley
Whitney and Max would rather not have a relationship. With each other or anyone. The complex fantasy worlds they live in make it unappealing. Unfortunately, they’re in a clinical drug trial to test an experimental drug to cure their schizoid personality disorders. A cure that will kill both their worlds. In the course of the six week drug trial, falling in love becomes . . . less unappealing. But when they have a chance to stop taking the pills– should they let two entire worlds die for the sake of their love? Because that would suck.

Saturday November 22nd at 3pm
No One’s Watching
By Michael Aguirre
Directed by Cat Parker
4 singular tales, one shared bond.  No One’s Watching explores the lonely existence of different generations and classes caught in a repetitive, unfulfilled life.  On an ambitious quest for sex, money, and what they hope is happiness, the stories weave together an exploration of where we fit in the Universe.

Sunday November 23rd at 3pm
In Loco Parentis
By Adam Kraar
Directed by Sarna Lapine
At a co-ed boarding school during the Vietnam War, teachers and students stumble through a minefield of politics, desire, and spiritual yearning.  Caught in the middle of this explosive landscape are Charlie, a young religion teacher who’s a stranger in America, and Edie, a wildly rebellious student Charlie’s determined to rescue from herself.

Sunday November 23rd at 7pm
Warm Roses
By Tim Errickson
Directed by Scott Ebersold
Meg runs a Jersey Shore bed and breakfast left to her by her late husband, with the help of her son Marcus and best friend Joanie. As another summer winds down in the long line of endless summers, Meg’s brother in law and his young graduate assistant come to stay, upsetting the daily balance. Is it better to be alone with a bottle, or in the company of family?

Monday November 24th at 7pm
Mommy Baby
By Shelley McPherson
Kim leaves home, abandoning her family and crashing with her single sister Kate. When Kim picks up where she left off with her fun-loving high school boyfriend, Wayne, both sisters find surprises on the grass-is-greener, bumpy road not taken.  Mommy Baby is a play about having kids, not having kids, and being a kid.

All readings in the Festival are held at New Georges and ART/NY, 520 Eighth Avenue, 3rd floor. Admission is free, with a $5 suggested donation.

Johnna Adams’ masterpiece makes a return!

We’re raising money thru our IndieGoGo campaign for our Fall and Winter programming. In addition to Waving Goodbye, the other full production in this season is Johnna Adams’ LICKSPITTLES, BUTTONHOLERS AND DAMNED PERNICIOUS GO-BETWEENS. Boomerang produced “Lickspittles…” in 2013 as part of our last rep season, and response could not have been more clear: We need to see more of this play! So we are remounting it in rotating rep with Waving Goodbye (“Givin’ the People…Give the People what the Want!”).

What makes “Lickspittles…” special? There are so many things. First, it’s a story totally written in various forms of verse, from rhyming couplets to limericks to sestinas to free verse. It’s an amazing piece of writing. When Associate Artistic Director John Hurley got hold of it, he made it into a remarkable evening in the theatre. Three nutty Danish court officials try to save Denmark from destruction by going to France and thwarting Napoleon, but happen to meet their equals in the female court officials from France. Love, loss, history, lust, pride and most of all laughter are the DNA of this play, so much so that we knew we had to revisit it.

Part of our mission is to develop new work. Once developed, the other side of our mission kicks in: the provide the brightest spotlight we can for this work, making sure that audiences get as much access to it as possible. Hundreds have people have seen the show so far, our goal now is to get thousands of people to see it. This play is too dynamic to be shuttered away.

We still need your help to make this a reality. Please make a donation to our campaign to help bring LICKSPITTLES, BUTTONHOLERS AND DAMNED PERNICIOUS GO-BETWEENS back this Winter. Everyone who donates $25 gets complimentary tickets to both of these plays in our rep.

Join our team, support the cause, and be a part of all the love and laughter.

Raising money with perks and pies, all to produce a play I love

Hi all…we’ve been talking all week about raising money with our IndieGoGo campaign, and talking about the cool perks each donation can have. We’ve also been trying to incentivize you with the notion of pies in the face of our staff. It’s been wonderful to see how many people are supporting our work.

The work…this brings me back to the reason we are raising money in the first place. Around 2001, I fell head over heels in love. Unabashedly, whole heartedly in love with a new play that came across my desk as I was reading scripts. The play was about two heartbroken women, a mother and a daughter. The man who is husband and father in the play has died in a mountain climbing accident, and each woman is trying to put the pieces of their respective life back together. Not only do they feel the incredible loss of father and husband, they also are left with each other. Mourning, angry, hiding, scared, figuring it out. Loving too much and loving not enough and maybe doing it all wrong and just trying to get thru.

The play was on fire on the page. I couldn’t stop reading it, couldn’t stop carrying it around, couldn’t stop telling people about this amazing story.

That play is WAVING GOODBYE by Jamie Pachino.

After several years of negotiating and a few near misses, Boomerang is so incredibly proud to be presenting the New York Premiere of WAVING GOODBYE this winter, directed by the extraordinary Jordana Williams.

I CANNOT WAIT to begin casting, I CANNOT WAIT to begin preproduction and rehearsals, and I CANNOT WAIT for you to sit in the audience and share in this remarkable play.

This is why we do what we do. Because remarkable plays come into our lives, without ever a plan on how they get here, and we have to do them. We have to. No matter what the cost in dollars, in sleep, in sacrifices. We have to.

Every donor who joins this campaign with us becomes a part of the Waving Goodbye family. Please make a donation of any size.

Donate to our campaign, and we’ll take a pie in the face!

You read that right. Our team is committed to raising money for our Fall/Winter season. So with each milestone hit, we’re getting hit as well.

With a pie in the face.

IMG_3835
Would you like to see these people get hit with pies?

When we hit the $2500 mark, Artistic Director Tim Errickson is going get hit with a cream pie, right in the mug.

Wanna see Managing Director Sue Abbott get hit with a pie? You will, when we hit $5000 in donations.

Cailin Heffernan, John Hurley and Danielle Demisay? Really, you want them to get hit too? Alright, at the $7500 goal, it’ll happen.

And for the pies de resistance (see what we did there?), we’re ALL going to get a pie in the face when we hit the $10,000 goal.

These lovable faces should be splattered in desserts, and only you can make it happen!

Donations begin at as little as $10. Click here to order dessert for these fine people.

We’ve got some pretty interesting perks too, including a walk on role in a Broadway Show. Click here to take a look! You’ve only got until August 31st to make this happen!

Thank you in advance for your support!
