Announcing dates and venue for THE RECKLESS SEASON

Hello everyone…

Happy New Year! We’re incredibly excited to announce additional details for the world premiere production of THE RECKLESS SEASON by Lauren Ferebee, Boomerang’s first production of 2017.

THE RECKLESS SEASON will begin performances April 21st, 2017 at TheaterLab NYC (357 W 36th Street, NYC). The production will be directed by Dominic D’Andrea, with designs by Boomerang alums Kia Rogers (Lights) and Philip Emeott (Projections), along with Scott Tedmon-Jones (Sets), Andy Evan Cohen (Sound) and Viviane Galloway (Costumes). Antonio Minino and Kampfire Films PR return to handle press/publicity duties. Full casting will be announced shortly.

About the play:
It’s 2008 in small town USA, and there is nothing Norman Rockwell about it. Simon’s returned home after two tours in Iraq to find his alcoholic mother dead by suicide and his younger brother, Terry, strangely obsessed with an early-90s videogame about ancient Sparta. Between Terry, Terry’s truck stop co-worker, Lisa, and Flynn, their mother’s co-dependent former drug dealer, Simon’s dream of peace and quiet quickly evaporates. Wrestling with the aftermath of death, and realization that no one knows what comes next, these four Americans grasp toward adulthood in a place they dream of leaving.

THE RECKLESS SEASON will run for 14 performances from April 21st thru May 7th, 2017. Tickets will go on sale on Feb 15th.

Boomerang’s Rock-n-Roles shreds on Sept 27th

Rock n rolesHey everyone…we really want you to join us for another very special night of ROCK-N-ROLES on September 27th at 7pm. It’s going to be tremendous fun as always, and we want to share it with you!

For those who don’t know, ROCK-N-ROLES is a new play event where 6 playwrights randomly select a song from a hat and then write a new 10 minute play using that song as inspiration. They write overnight and begin rehearsing their play the next morning with cast and director. All six plays premiere that evening. It’s a high-wire, exciting event with loads of fun, and great music to top it all off.

Previously we’ve had plays inspired by The Beatles’ “Norwegian Wood”, Led Zeppelin’s “Going to California”, Meat Loaf’s “Paradise by the Dashboard Light”, Aerosmith’s “Dude Looks Like a Lady”, Springsteen’s “Born To Run” and Thin Lizzie’s “The Boys are Back in Town” to name just a few.

ROCK-N-ROLES will be Sunday September 27th at 7pm at TheaterLab, 357 W 36th Street, 3rd floor.
Tickets are $20 and include one drink ticket. They can be purchased in advance here.

All proceeds support Boomerang’s new play development programs including the 2015 First Flight New Play Festival, kicking off November 18th.

Chords will be strummed, hearts will be broken, and Rock will be King. Don’t miss it!

Rock n roles

Rock-n-Roles is a one night only event in which playwrights craft brand new 10 minute plays inspired by great rock-n-roll songs selected at random. Previous showings have included plays inspired by Springsteen, Journey, Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, The Cure, The Rolling Stones and more. The lineup is going to be spectacular…playwrights so far include Mike Aguirre (of Rising Sun’s Ice Age), Philip Emeott (star of Boomerang’s Richard 3), Susan Ferrara (writer of The Machine from First Flight 2011), Larry Kunofsky (Van Gogh Among The Hipsters in First Flight 2013), Shelley McPherson (Exit Zero in First Flight 2013) and Mateo Moreno (Bohemian Valentine in The Planet Connections Fest 2013). That is a crackerjack group of scribes, folks.

The director list is just as impressive, featuring Indie superstars Danielle Demisay, Rich Ferraioli, Cailin Heffernan, John Hurley and Linda Nelson.

Drinks will be flowing, chords will be strummed, hearts will be broken, and rock will be king. You gotta be there!

There’s a Holiday Party at TheaterLab, and you are invited!

Below is a note from Orietta Crispino …

“A famous American movie has the line, “If you build it, they will come.” Since I grew up in Italy, I know little about baseball or Kevin Costner, yet I believe this sentiment to be true. Twelve months ago I signed a lease on West 36th Street. A new lease on life for Theaterlab. I designed the space to maximize its beauty and efficiency for artmakers. And you have come in droves. Thank you for joining us in this new chapter.

What a whirlwind first year at the reborn Theaterlab. We’ve  hosted some amazing artists and companies—Reno, Forward Flux, Estrogenius Festival, League of Professional Theatre Women, Boomerang Theatre Company, Side Street Productions, and Voices Inside/Out among many. Theaterlab also produced the NOT-Made in Italy series, which showcased the work of mid-career Italian artists living in the diaspora and Celebrate the Artist. Our plan is to continue these awe-inspiring series in 2014.

We are also excited to host a rocking holiday party with Convergences and Kinesis Project on December 19th (RSVP to info@theaterlabnyc.com). Come one. Come all. We cannot wait to announce our upcoming artistic collaboration–Hotel New Work : Revealing Process–with these two fine companies.

As we prepare for our 9th groundbreaking season of producing new work and supporting thought-provoking artists,we are grateful for your support. We hope you will join us by making a tax-deductible donation and/or spreading the word about our lovely new home to your closest allies, colleagues and artists. In other words, we hope you will make Theaterlab your artistic home in 2014.

Wishing you lots of joy, peace, creativity and hope this holiday season. Here’s to a fantastic year ahead.orietta

Warmly,

Orietta Crispino

Boomerang’s production of CANDIDA by George Bernard Shaw returns to the stage this weekend for 5 consecutive performances, and we’d love for you to check it out. CANDIDA is a warm, funny story of a married couple who have their ideas of fidelity and intimacy challenged by a young poet. It’s one of GB Shaw’s most popular plays because of it’s great characters and modern sensibility. The cast is terrific, and I would really love for you to see this wonderful production.

Performances this weekend are Friday and Saturday at 8pm, Sunday at 3pm and then Tuesday and Wednesday at 8pm.
You can find more information here and tickets here. Enjoy!
