Hello folks! Welcome to summer!

On June 10th, Boomerang hosted  the first of a series of readings of works in progress called FUTURE FEST. The idea is to give work that has progressed beyond the point of a First Flight reading and the resources that come with that, and now are in need of more time and more attention to continue their development. These are the works that we believe could end up in full productions in future Boomerang rep seasons or as stand alones. Hence the name…Future Fest!

First up…ALMOST FREE by Tim Duncheon, directed by Kevin R. Free. The cast included Mary E. Hodges, Zak Hoogendyk, Blake Russell, Tarantino Smith and Sara Thigpen.

Here’s the blurb:
Philadelphia, 1793. When Nathaniel, a newly-freed slave, volunteers to help fight an epidemic killing the city’s white residents, he hopes to improve his position in society. Instead, he finds himself in a perfect storm of racial hatred, mutual distrust, and politics. Is it really possible for an ex-slave to achieve the American Dream?

If you missed the reading, you’ll have an additional opportunity to hear it this fall when we’ll present a new reading of ALMOST FREE as it continues to grow.
